The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence handed to controversial evangelist and former fetish priestess, Nana Agradaa, to 12 calendar months, describing the original punishment as harsh and excessive.
In its ruling, the High Court upheld Nana Agradaa’s conviction but exercised its discretionary powers to vary the sentence imposed by the trial court. The judges held that although the offence warranted custodial punishment, the length and severity of the original sentence were disproportionate to the circumstances of the case.
The court consequently reduced the sentence from 15 years with hard labour to 12 months imprisonment. Having already served six months, Agradaa now has only four months remaining in custody.
The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date Nana Agradaa was originally convicted, meaning she is to serve a total of 12 months in custody.
According to the court, the adjustment was necessary to ensure that the punishment met the principles of fairness and proportionality under the law.
Nana Agradaa, who transitioned from being a self-styled fetish priestess to an evangelist, was convicted earlier in 2025 in a case that generated widespread public interest, debate, and legal scrutiny across the country.
While the conviction itself remains unchanged, the appellate court’s decision has significantly reduced the custodial term, bringing some closure to a case that has remained in the national spotlight.
