The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has successfully arrested a notorious illegal mining operator, Iddrisu Zakari, popularly known as Yaayaa, for his alleged involvement in unlawful mining activities around Osino in the Eastern Region.
Zakari was apprehended on Monday, November 10, 2025, at approximately 6:06 p.m. in Bunso after he agreed to meet NAIMOS operatives to negotiate the release of his detained associates and discuss a possible suspension of investigations into his galamsey operations.
The arrest comes shortly after a major raid conducted on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Zakari’s illegal mining site, where 32 Nigerien nationals and four Ghanaian guards armed with machetes were taken into custody.
Following his capture, Zakari was handed over to the Ghana Police Service to assist with further investigations.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying efforts against illegal mining and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to curb the destruction of Ghana’s environment and water bodies.
