
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has intensified its fight against illegal mining with a large-scale operation in the Eastern Region that resulted in 41 arrests and the seizure of mining equipment and cash.
During the operation in the Birim North District, the task force arrested five individuals, including a foreign national, suspected of engaging in illegal mining activities. The team also confiscated heavy-duty machinery, significant amounts of cash, and various mining-related materials from the site.
Continuing its crackdown, the NAIMOS team extended the operation to Osino in the Fanteakwa South District, where a coordinated dawn raid led to the arrest of 36 people 32 Nigeriens and four Ghanaians also suspected of participating in illegal mining.
The latest enforcement action forms part of NAIMOS’s ongoing nationwide campaign to dismantle illegal mining networks and protect the country’s water bodies and natural resources from environmental degradation.
