Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and Ningo Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, has restated his firm and unchanged position on the Anti-LGBTQI Bill currently before Parliament.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Friday, April 11, Sam George disclosed that the Private Member’s Bill has been resubmitted and is awaiting further action by the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.
“My stance on the Anti-LGBTQI Bill remains the same. I have resubmitted the bill to Parliament,” he declared, emphasizing that LGBTQI activities are unacceptable and should not be tolerated in Ghana.
As one of the bill’s most vocal proponents, Sam George has consistently argued that it reflects the cultural and religious values of Ghanaians. Supporters of the bill believe it will uphold national morality, while opponents claim it infringes on basic human rights.
Former President John Dramani Mahama recently weighed in, suggesting that a government-sponsored version of the bill would carry more weight and legitimacy. During a meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference, he also advocated for strengthening moral values through the national education system.
“For the bill to gain broader legitimacy and a higher success rate, it would be ideal for it to be presented with official government support,” Mr. Mahama stated.
