“My husband didn’t die from food poisoning; he battled a terminal disease” – Lilian Kumah

Apostle Lilian Kumah, the widow of the late deputy Finance Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, has refuted claims that her husband, John Kumah, died from food poisoning. She clarified that he had been battling a severe illness for over a year.

In an interview with Asaase News, Apostle Lilian Kumah revealed that her late husband had been suffering from a terminal disease for nearly a year, as diagnosed by his doctors in Germany. She stated that John Kumah succumbed to this illness on Thursday, 7 March 2024, and not food poisoning.

Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, who is also the General Overseer of Disciples of Christ Ministries, urged those speculating about her husband’s death to stop, as it is causing additional pain to her family. She called for swift police action against individuals spreading false claims, such as Blessed Godsbrain Smart, known as Captain Smart, who alleged that John Kumah was poisoned without providing evidence.

Apostle Lilian Kumah expressed frustration over these false claims and emphasized the need for the law to be enforced against those making baseless accusations. She clarified that John Kumah was diagnosed with a blood-related disease in August 2023 in Germany and that throughout his medical check-ups in Germany and Ghana, poisoning was never mentioned.

John Kumah passed away at the Suhum government hospital after being diverted there while en route from Ejisu to Accra. Despite efforts to stabilize him for further travel to Germany for treatment, he could not be saved.
