MTN Ghana Justifies 15% Price Increase Amidst Customer Dissatisfaction

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has defended its recent decision to raise prices by 15% across various services for both prepaid and postpaid customers. The company’s move, effective from November 28, 2023, has drawn criticism from some Ghanaians, who expressed discontent on social media platforms.

MTN Ghana, identified as a Significant Market Power (SMP) firm, clarified that the price hike was essential to sustain its operational activities. In a statement, the company attributed the increase to rising operational expenses, emphasizing that the adjustment was necessary to facilitate ongoing investments required for the sustainability of its business.

Mr. Noel Kojo-Ganson, the Chief Commercial Officer of MTN Ghana, highlighted market pressures and the challenging economic environment as key reasons behind the decision. He stressed the importance of adapting to the increased cost of business inputs, reaffirming that the price revision was vital for MTN Ghana to maintain business operations while continuing to invest in network infrastructure and innovative solutions to enhance the customer experience.

The company reassured its customers of its commitment to providing reliable, innovative, and improved services. Despite the price adjustments, MTN Ghana confirmed that its ongoing promotions, offers, and loyalty programs, including the existing 50% bonus for 4G customers on the myMTN App and Momo App, would remain unaffected.
