Mother Overjoyed as Ibrahim Mahama Covers Daughter’s $25K Kidney Transplant

Grace Akweley, mother of Rosemary Boadu — a young girl facing end-stage kidney failure — has expressed heartfelt gratitude after a transformative donation from Ibrahim Mahama, CEO of Engineers & Planners and Dzata Cement. Mahama’s $25,000 contribution will fully fund Rosemary’s critical kidney transplant, providing a new sense of hope after years of financial struggle and health challenges.

Rosemary’s health battles began at age 13 when seemingly minor issues escalated to kidney failure, forcing her to rely on biweekly dialysis sessions. This life-sustaining treatment has been financially taxing for her family, who relocated from the Oti Region to Accra to access care at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Relying heavily on donations, they have faced constant worries about covering treatment and essential needs.

Their story was widely shared after it appeared in the JoyNews feature “Dialysis at 13,” which underscored the immense strain on Rosemary and her family.

In a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Changes Show, Grace expressed her overwhelming relief, saying, “God bless everyone who has helped us. I never imagined something like this would happen, making it possible for my child to live like other kids.”

With Mahama’s support, Rosemary is set to begin pre-transplant evaluations next week, moving closer to her goal of becoming a doctor — a dream inspired by her own medical experiences. For Grace and Rosemary, this generosity represents not just financial aid but a beacon of hope for a brighter future.
