Ghana Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu is set to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury, according to reports by Get French Football.

The injury occurred during AS Monaco’s 3-1 defeat to Olympique Lyon in a French Ligue 1 match played over the weekend. Salisu was one of three Monaco players who sustained injuries during the encounter.

Although the 26-year-old completed the full 90 minutes against Lyon, medical assessments later confirmed the severity of the injury, effectively ruling him out of the World Cup later this year.

Salisu had been enjoying a strong run of form after a difficult start to the 2025/2026 season, which was disrupted by injuries and limited playing time. He made 18 appearances across all competitions for Monaco before the setback.

The defender represented Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and was widely expected to feature at his second World Cup, having established himself as one of the Black Stars’ most consistent foreign-based players.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the 2026 tournament alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The Black Stars will play two of their group matches in the United States, with the fixture against Panama scheduled to take place in Canada.
