Minority Challenges Bawumia to Debate Mid-Year Budget Review

The Minority group in Parliament has called on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to engage in a debate on the 2024 mid-year budget review.

The Minority’s request stems from Dr. Bawumia’s position as the head of the Economic Management Team.

Deputy Minority Whip Ibrahim Ahmed, in a signed statement, highlighted that parliamentary rules permit the participation of sitting Vice Presidents in House debates.

This invitation to the NPP’s presidential candidate follows the Minority’s demand for Dr. Bawumia to debate their economic spokesperson rather than their flagbearer, John Mahama.

In their Wednesday statement, the caucus announced, “The debate is scheduled to commence on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the parliamentary chamber. The Minority extends this public invitation to the Vice President, considering his role as Chairman of the Economic Management Team.”
