The Minority Caucus in Parliament has issued a firm response to the Tamale High Court ruling that nullified the 2024 parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency. In a statement released on November 24, 2025, the Caucus emphasized that the election was conducted transparently and produced a credible outcome that reflected the will of the people.

According to the statement, Hon. Mathew Nyindam won the parliamentary seat with a margin of 3,734 votes. The Caucus recounted that after the NDC secured the presidential results, the party’s parliamentary candidate, Hon. Daniel Nsala Wakpal, allegedly mobilized supporters to disrupt the collation process. The group reportedly damaged some ballot boxes, believing this would prevent the Electoral Commission from completing the final declaration.

Due to escalating tensions, the Electoral Commission moved the final declaration to its regional office in Tamale. The Minority Caucus noted that all NDC agents had already signed the pink sheets at every polling station, confirming the accuracy of the results.

Despite this, Hon. Wakpal contested the results in court, citing clerical errors and his absence from Tamale during the collation. The Caucus stated that the main NDC witness acknowledged that the total votes in contention were about 500. Even if all disputed votes had been awarded to the NDC candidate, the difference would not have overturned the over 3,000-vote margin.

However, the Tamale High Court nullified the results and ordered a rerun—a decision the Minority Caucus described as concerning, insisting that the facts did not support the ruling. They revealed that a notice of appeal and an application for a stay of execution have already been filed.

Reaffirming its confidence in the democratic process, the Minority Caucus stated that the Kpandai election “was conducted in a transparent manner,” adding that they trust the appellate process to restore confidence in the will of the voters.

The statement was signed by Minority Leader Osaheh Alexander Kwame Afenyo-Markin.
