In a tragic incident that unfolded on Monday, January 29, 2024, the Asuoso community in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region is grappling with shock and sorrow as police actively pursue a 30-year-old mason identified as Shadrack, also known as Kwaata. The suspect is allegedly responsible for the murder of his girlfriend and her two children, a four-year-old stepson named Nti Joseph and a two-week-old baby.
Residents recount a heated altercation between Shadrack and his girlfriend on Sunday night, resulting in him demanding she leave their residence. Despite resistance from the girlfriend, Portia Yerebe, she remained in the house.
The grim discovery unfolded when Portia Yerebe’s mother visited the home the next morning to attend to the newborn. Finding the door locked, she returned in the evening and, upon noticing the continued lock, raised an alarm. Community leaders were alerted, prompting a forced entry into the residence.
Tragically, the lifeless bodies of Portia Yerebe and her two children were found. Residents observed severe cuts on Portia’s neck, suggesting the use of a sharp object in her murder, while the children displayed signs of potential poisoning, evidenced by foam around their mouths.
Shadrack, the prime suspect, is currently evading authorities, prompting a widespread police search. The bodies have been transported to Nkenkaasu Government Hospital for autopsy and preservation as the community grapples with the shocking events.
