A young man sustained severe injuries after being hit by the 001 train operating on the Tema–Mpakadan rail line. The incident occurred when he reportedly failed to move away from the edge of the track despite repeated warnings from the train’s horn.
Eyewitnesses at the scene stated that the victim appeared mentally sound before the incident. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to provide medical assistance, ensuring the injured man received prompt attention.
In a statement, the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) urged the public to exercise caution and avoid walking along or near railway tracks. The Authority reiterated that pedestrian safety remains a top priority, emphasizing the dangers of ignoring safety signals.
Meanwhile, the GRDA hinted that recent stone-throwing attacks on the train service could be acts of retaliation linked to the Authority’s ongoing efforts to clear encroachers from the railway corridor. Since the Tema–Mpakadan train service began commercial operations on October 1, 2025, four such attacks have been recorded. The latest occurred on Tuesday, November 11, when one of the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains had its windscreen damaged by stones.
