An elderly man, identified as Nmei Sam and believed to be in his 80s, tragically lost his life in a fire outbreak at the Sawla Sindaa electoral area in the Savannah Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday and has left the community in shock. Residents revealed that Sam, who lived alone and had no electricity in his home, made the cause of the fire mysterious.

Firefighters responded promptly but were forced to use motorbikes and water from nearby homes to combat the blaze, as the Sawla District fire tender has been out of service for over a month.

Sawlawura Abdulai Nungbaso, the chief of Sawla, expressed his condolences and urged residents to exercise caution during the harmattan season, a period prone to fires. He also appealed to the government to urgently repair the fire tender to prevent future tragedies.

The deceased has been released to his family for burial in line with Vagla traditions.
