A devastating incident unfolded in Takoradi when a man, identified as Joseph Amaley, reportedly took his own life after misusing funds that were remitted from abroad for a family renovation project.
The lifeless body of Joseph Amaley, believed to be in his late twenties, was discovered hanging at the Plant Unit of Wangkang, a ceramic company located in Eshiem within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region. The tragic event occurred on Friday, June 28, 2024.
Joseph Bismarck Eshun, the Assembly member for Eshiem, confirmed the heartbreaking incident to Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show. According to Eshun, the deceased had been working at the company for a few months but resigned after his uncle, who resides abroad, started sending him money for a family building project.
Regrettably, Joseph Amaley had squandered all the funds intended for the project without any progress to show. Realizing that he had no explanation for his uncle, he became overwhelmed with guilt and despair, ultimately choosing to take his own life.
“It is time for his uncle to return to Ghana, but he had spent all the project money and that got him thinking. He came back to the company and re-applied, he was employed and had started working but he was still being haunted by his deeds,” explained Eshun.
Before his tragic demise, Joseph Amaley reached out to a friend, expressing his unhappiness with his actions and hinting at the possibility of ending his life. Later that day, his lifeless body was discovered hanging on the premises of the company.
The family has been notified of the distressing incident, and the police have initiated investigations to gain further insights into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the mental and emotional toll that financial pressures can have on individuals, emphasizing the importance of seeking support and assistance during difficult times.
