The Majority in Parliament has issued an apology to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta following a raid on his residence by security personnel.

According to their findings, the operation was led by Richard Jakpa, an official at the National Security Coordinator’s office.

Addressing Parliament on the matter, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga expressed regret over the incident, reaffirming the Mahama administration’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights.

“H.E. President John Dramani Mahama is dedicated to ensuring that the rights and freedoms of every individual are upheld. We have received assurances from the National Security Coordinator’s office that this incident was unintended.

“This occurrence is deeply regrettable, and Mr. Jakpa has assured us that such an incident will not happen again,” Ayariga stated.

He emphasized that the Majority remains committed to ensuring institutions function properly and that officials act in accordance with the law.

“I personally extend my apologies to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and believe this issue should be put to rest,” Ayariga added.

The raid, which took place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence, involved about 12 individuals, including five in military uniforms, one in police attire, and the rest in plain clothes. At the time, Ofori-Atta was out of the country, but his wife and other family members were present.

Since early 2025, Ofori-Atta has been in the U.S. for medical treatment, having formally notified the Chief of Staff.

On February 12, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) dismissed claims that the raid was staged and officially named Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four major corruption investigations. These include alleged misconduct in the National Cathedral project and dealings with Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).

During a press briefing, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared Ofori-Atta a wanted person, instructing him to return immediately for questioning. He warned that failure to comply could result in legal action to compel his return.
