President John Dramani Mahama is expected to approve a two-year extension for Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno after a recommendation from the Police Council, Citi News understands.
The extension will allow IGP Yohuno to continue steering the Ghana Police Service as it advances ongoing reforms and strengthens national security measures.
Sources suggest the decision is aimed at maintaining stability in the country’s security architecture and building on the progress achieved under Yohuno’s leadership.
Appointed earlier this year, IGP Yohuno has been praised for improving police visibility, enhancing crime response systems, and promoting community policing nationwide. He was initially due for retirement in December 2025.
Although the official confirmation is still pending, the extension will allow him to oversee major security projects, modernisation initiatives, and continued capacity building within the service.
