President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed calls for the immediate appointment of substantive Ministers for Defence and Environment, Science and Technology, stating that the positions will be filled in 2026.
Speaking during a meeting with Muslim leaders at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 25, the President urged the public to avoid speculation regarding replacements for the late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Muhammed.
Both ministers were among eight people who died in a helicopter crash on August 6 while travelling for a national assignment in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing rumours of imminent appointments, President Mahama said the claims were baseless. He noted that government is not in a hurry to fill the positions and that formal appointments will be made early next year.
He explained that the vacancies would be addressed after the Christmas holidays, encouraging the public to disregard speculations about immediate announcements.
President Mahama added that the government remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity, and the new appointments will be made at the appropriate time in 2026.
