President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have donated GH₵50,000 to the family of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
The donation was presented during the musician’s final funeral rites held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The funeral ceremony attracted thousands of fans from across the country, who gathered early to honour the celebrated musician. The atmosphere at the stadium blended grief with celebration, as mourners sang and danced to Daddy Lumba’s classic songs that have defined Ghana’s music scene for decades. Security was heightened to manage the large crowd and ensure safety.
Several high-profile dignitaries were present at the event, including NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, and other party executives.
Adding to the tribute, veteran musician Nana Acheampong delivered a live band performance, electrifying the crowd and paying musical homage to Daddy Lumba’s enduring legacy.
The burial followed a landmark decision by the Accra High Court, which cleared the way for the funeral after members of the late musician’s maternal family failed to raise the GH₵2 million required to maintain an injunction preventing the release of his body. Lawyers described the ruling as a relief that brought unity and closure after months of legal disputes.
Daddy Lumba, regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest highlife musicians, leaves behind an unmatched musical legacy that continues to influence generations of artists and fans. His funeral marks the end of a prolonged family dispute and offers the nation a final opportunity to celebrate the life and impact of a cultural icon.
