President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government will soon establish the 24-Hour Authority, a major step towards the full implementation of Ghana’s 24-hour economy policy.
The Authority will oversee the registration of businesses participating in the initiative and outline incentives to support them, as part of efforts to boost productivity and economic growth.
President Mahama made the announcement on Thursday, January 8, during a visit to the Ghana Publishing Company, where he praised management for adopting innovative measures, including a two-shift operational system ahead of the policy’s rollout.
He disclosed that the committee tasked with reviewing the 24-hour economy framework has completed its work and will soon submit its report to Parliament, paving the way for the formal establishment of the 24-Hour Authority.
According to the President, the Authority will serve as the implementing body for the policy, providing clarity on how businesses can participate and the specific incentives available to those that sign on.
He noted that early adopters, such as the Ghana Publishing Company, are well positioned to benefit from the initiative once it becomes operational.
President Mahama also welcomed efforts by the sector minister to engage the Ministers of Education and Finance to ensure that the Ghana Publishing Company secures a significant share of government contracts for the printing of textbooks and learning materials.
He said increased revenue from such contracts would support the company’s ongoing retooling and expansion efforts.
The President encouraged the management of the Ghana Publishing Company to formally register under the 24-hour economy initiative once the Authority is established, expressing confidence that the policy will enhance productivity, strengthen state-owned enterprises, and contribute to broader economic transformation.
