Madina court jails two Nigerians for falsifying Ghana Card information

Two Nigerian nationals have been sentenced to 12 months in prison each by the Madina District Court II for providing false information and using forged documents during the Ghana Card registration exercise.

Presided over by Her Worship Susana Nyakotey, the court delivered its verdict on Friday, November 7, 2025, after finding the accused Ike Isaac, also known as Alex Kwesi Brown Appiah (20), and Emmanuel Innocent Egbe, also known as Innocent Emmanuel Kodom (24) guilty on all charges.

A statement issued by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the National Identification Authority (NIA), said the two were charged with providing false information to national identification registration officials under Section 40(1)(a) of the National Identity Register Act, 2008 (Act 750), and possessing forged documents under Section 166 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Both men received 12 months’ imprisonment for providing false information and 13 months for possessing forged documents, to run concurrently. The court also ordered their deportation to Nigeria after serving their sentences. They have since been transferred to the Nsawam Prisons Authority.

In a statement, the NIA said the conviction underscores its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Ghana Card registration process, describing it as “the single credible source of identity for all lawful residents.”

The Authority expressed appreciation to the Ghana Police Service, the CID Unit attached to the NIA, and the Office of the Attorney-General for their collaboration, which led to the successful prosecution.

The NIA further cautioned the public against impersonation, falsification, and use of fake documents, stressing that such offences will be met with the full force of the law.
