The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern reminder, particularly to faith-based organizations, regarding the law governing the communication of prophecies, emphasizing that it remains in full force.
The law prohibits the public dissemination of doomsday prophecies, especially those predicting harm, deaths, or any predictions likely to incite a breakdown of law and order.
In an official statement, the Police stressed the importance of practicing religious beliefs within the confines of the law and respecting the rights and freedoms of others as outlined in the constitution. They highlighted December 27th as a designated “Prophecy Communication Compliance Day,” urging religious communities to ensure their practices align with legal regulations.
The Police expressed gratitude for the compliance demonstrated by faith-based groups thus far, recognizing that adherence to these regulations has fostered a society devoid of unnecessary panic, fear, and alarm, while safeguarding the rights of those affected by such prophecies.
Encouraging continued compliance, the Police underscored the significance of abiding by the law to uphold the prevailing state of law, order, and security within the country.
In the spirit of the festive season, the Ghana Police Service extended warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to everyone while reiterating the importance of maintaining a balance between religious practices and legal requirements.
