Police in the Eastern Region have arrested three individuals for stealing sardines from a cargo truck that was involved in an accident at Kwahu Fodua on the Accra–Kumasi highway.
The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command said the truck, registered AA 119CY, was travelling from Accra to Kumasi when it overturned, completely blocking both lanes. The driver and his mate were on board at the time of the crash.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver may have swerved to avoid a pothole in the middle of the road, causing the fully loaded container to tip over.
The accident attracted a crowd of residents and passersby. While some helped in the effort to tow the truck and clear the road, three individuals were caught stealing sardines from the overturned container. They were immediately handed over to the police.
The driver and his mate were taken to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for medical treatment as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
