A tragic accident at Patasi in the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of two individuals and left another in critical condition after a school bus belonging to Palmar International School lost control and crashed into a storey building.
The fatal incident occurred on the evening of Monday, April 7, 2025, around 5 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, the bus, which was reportedly experiencing brake failure, veered off the road and slammed into a building where some residents had gathered.
The victims have been identified as 74-year-old Maame Serwaa and a middle-aged man known only as Alfred, believed to be between 45 and 50 years old. A third victim, Wofa, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Suntreso Government Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to reports from OTEC News, Maame Serwaa had invited Alfred to her residence to inspect a plumbing issue in her bathroom. The two were seated at a local pub in front of the house discussing the cost estimate for the repair when the accident occurred. A tenant of the house told reporter Samuel Sarkodie that the bus came speeding and crashed into the building, catching everyone off guard.
“It took the intervention of police officers and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service to retrieve the bodies and injured victim from the wreckage,” she recounted.
In addition to the loss of lives, the crash caused extensive property damage, sending shockwaves through the Patasi community.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue, while the driver of the bus is currently assisting police with investigations. Authorities have launched a full-scale inquiry into the cause of the brake failure and whether negligence played a role in the fatal crash.
