Kpandai Member of Parliament Matthew Nyindam has filed a notice of appeal and a stay of execution to challenge the Tamale High Court ruling that ordered a rerun of the parliamentary election in the constituency.
The High Court had instructed that a fresh poll be conducted within 30 days after identifying procedural irregularities at the collation centre in the 2024 election. The ruling favoured NDC candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who argued that the breaches affected his right to fully participate in the electoral process.
Following the decision, Mr. Nyindam moved swiftly to contest the verdict and temporarily halt the rerun while the appeal is heard.
Speaking to Channel One TV on Monday, November 24, Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, alleged irregularities in how the High Court conducted the process. He claimed the judgment appeared to have been prepared before arguments were made in court.
He also questioned why the court ordered a full constituency rerun when the dispute concerned only 41 of the 152 polling stations. According to him, all pink sheets were duly signed by party agents and had no issues outside the contested stations.
Mr. Mohammed confirmed that the appeal and stay of execution were filed at 10:04 a.m., shortly after the ruling.
The appeal is expected to trigger further legal processes, potentially delaying the ordered rerun and keeping political tensions in Kpandai heightened as both major parties await the next steps.
