KNUST Basic School Shut Down Amidst TEWU, SSA-UoG and GAUA Strikes

In response to the ongoing strikes led by the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC), the Senior Staff Association Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has taken the unprecedented step of closing down its Basic School.

The joint demand for tier-2 pension allowances and improved Conditions of Service by TEWU, SSA-UoG, and GAUA has prompted this drastic measure. Effective Tuesday, January 30th, 2024, the closure is set to remain in effect until further notice.

In General Notice No. 6/24, the university administration expressed its regret having to take this step but emphasized the necessity in light of the ongoing industrial action. The cooperation of all stakeholders is being sought during this period of closure.
