President John Dramani Mahama will today, November 17, 2025, swear in Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice, following Parliament’s approval of his nomination.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, nominated on September 23, 2025, has risen through the judiciary, serving at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. He has been Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, after the suspension and subsequent dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
At his vetting on November 10, he promised open-door leadership, bipartisan engagement, stronger judicial independence, and expanded access to justice.
Parliament approved his appointment on November 13 with 163 votes in favour and 69 against, clearing the path for today’s ceremony.
