An Accra High Court has fined juror Harry Don Atipo ₵1,200 for his absence during a crucial session in the ongoing Kasoa Teenagers Ritual Murder case. Presiding over the case, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo expressed frustration, noting that the trial, which was set for summing up and judgment, had to be postponed due to Atipo’s absence.
The court emphasized that Atipo had not provided a valid excuse for missing the session, causing unnecessary delays in the proceedings. His fellow jurors, in response, agreed to forfeit their sitting and transport allowances.
Atipo is required to pay the fine before the case resumes on Thursday, October 24, 2024. The case involves two teenagers, aged 18 and 15, accused of murdering 10-year-old Ishmael Abdalla for ritual purposes. Both face charges of conspiracy and murder.
