Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has issued a strong rebuttal to corruption allegations made against him by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, April 30, Dr. Ayine categorically denied claims that he manipulated the drafting and passage of the Sanitation and Pollution Levy in 2021 for personal gain. The allegations were initially made in a Facebook post by A Plus, who accused Dr. Ayine of restructuring the leadership of a parliamentary committee to benefit a close associate.

Describing the accusations as “palpable falsehoods,” the Attorney General emphasized that he had no involvement in the legislative process surrounding the levy.

“I was not a member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, let alone be in a position to influence its composition,” he stated, adding that he has parliamentary records to support his position.

Dr. Ayine firmly defended his integrity, declaring, “I have never stolen in my life or taken a bribe in public office. The President would not have appointed me if there were questions about my personal integrity.”

He challenged A Plus to go beyond social media and present any alleged evidence publicly or to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. “If A Plus has any evidence of corruption or thievery against me, I challenge him to call a press conference and present it,” he said.

In a direct response to the allegations, Dr. Ayine warned, “In my hometown, we don’t fear mud being thrown. We walk into the mud to deal with the person doing the mudslinging—and I’m ready to walk into the mud with A Plus.”

The Attorney General also hinted at a possible motive behind A Plus’s accusations, suggesting that the MP should be questioned over his alleged involvement in a National Service ghost names scandal.
