Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has ordered the immediate release of the Queen Mother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, after a controversial early-morning operation at the Abene Palace on Monday, November 17, 2025.
The IGP has also directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau to investigate the incident and ensure that any officers found culpable face appropriate sanctions.
The operation, which occurred around 4 a.m., was carried out by armed men dressed in police uniforms who reportedly claimed to be from National Security. According to residents, gunshots were heard within the palace before the Queenmother was allegedly taken away.
Security has since been intensified across the Kwahu area to protect residents and visitors amid rising tension.
In a related development, the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, was arrested during the same operation. Citi News sources confirm that the raid was conducted by officers from the Police Headquarters and that gunfire was exchanged.
Meanwhile, both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have denied prior knowledge of the operation, raising serious questions about coordination, command structure, and oversight within the security services.
