Business magnate Ibrahim Mahama has stepped in to fully cover the medical expenses of a 16-year-old girl, Abdul Wahab Nimatu, from Dakpem Fong in the Tamale Metropolis, who required urgent surgery at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).
The intervention followed a public appeal made by the hospital’s Medical Social Work Unit to raise GH¢8,500 for Nimatu’s colostomy reversal surgery, which included GH¢5,000 for the procedure, GH¢1,500 for medication, and GH¢2,000 for admission fees.
Acting on behalf of Mr. Mahama, Alhaji Amin Iddrisu, CEO of the Abuya Group, quickly responded to the call for assistance after being contacted by Radio Tamale presenter DJ Sof, who had initially brought the girl’s plight to public attention.
In a Facebook post, DJ Sof shared, “This morning, CEO Abuya asked that I call him. When I did, he said, ‘Sof, I am paying for the treatment of the 16-year-old girl at TTH on behalf of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.’ And in less than an hour, GH¢10,000 dropped.”
The funds will be used to settle the hospital bills in full, ensuring Nimatu undergoes her long-awaited surgery without delay.
The Tamale Teaching Hospital described Nimatu’s condition as critical, stressing that external support was crucial to saving her life.
This latest gesture adds to Ibrahim Mahama’s growing record of philanthropy, particularly in healthcare, education, and community development across Ghana.
