In the wake of the “OccupyBoG” demonstration organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) minority members on October 3rd, Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has firmly stated that he will not resign from his position. The protest was called to demand his resignation over allegations of misappropriation of state funds and unlawful printing of money.
Dr. Addison’s defiant stance was articulated in a statement he released earlier today, where he categorically expressed, “I WON’T RESIGN; NDC DEMO COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. The demonstration yesterday was completely unnecessary. The Minority (MPs) in Parliament have many channels to channel their grievances in civilized societies, not through demonstrations in the streets as hooligans.”
The “OccupyBoG” demonstration saw NDC supporters and members of the opposition party take to the streets of Accra to voice their concerns about the alleged financial misconduct within the Bank of Ghana. They demanded Dr. Addison’s immediate resignation, alleging that he had misappropriated state funds and engaged in the unlawful printing of money, which they claim has had adverse effects on the economy.
However, Dr. Addison, who has been at the helm of the Bank of Ghana since 2017, remains resolute in his position. He cited the availability of established channels within the parliamentary system for addressing grievances and emphasized the need for a more civilized approach to handling such issues.
