
The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has brought together key leaders of Ghana’s health sector for a two-day retreat in Ada to review performance in 2025 and set priorities for 2026.
The retreat, which opened on Monday, January 12, 2026, is themed “Ministry of Health 2025 Performance Review and Outlook for 2026” and brings together the Chief Director and Directors of the Ministry of Health, board chairpersons and members, heads of agencies, civil society representatives, and other key stakeholders.
The programme is focused on assessing achievements recorded in 2025, identifying operational challenges, aligning sector priorities, and strengthening coordination across health institutions to improve service delivery nationwide.
Directorates within the Ministry, including Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Human Resource for Health; Infrastructure; Training and Capacity Development; and Technical Assistance and Donor Coordination, are presenting detailed performance reports and outlooks.
Major health institutions such as the Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority, Food and Drugs Authority, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital are also making presentations on their 2025 performance and plans for the coming year.
Regulatory bodies and professional councils, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Medical and Dental Council, Allied Health Professions Council, and Pharmacy Council, are providing updates on their regulatory responsibilities and service delivery outcomes.
The 2026 planning session, led by the Health Minister, is centred on policy direction, sector priorities, and collaborative actions aimed at accelerating progress toward Universal Health Coverage, improving access to essential health services, and strengthening the resilience of Ghana’s health system.
The Ministry of Health stated that the retreat is part of efforts to promote high performance standards, enhance efficient use of resources, encourage evidence-based decision-making, and build a responsive, people-centred health system capable of addressing both current and emerging public health challenges.
