Ghanaian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Gyakie recently shared that she initially aspired to become an entrepreneur rather than pursuing a career in music. The award-winning artist revealed that her passion for entrepreneurship led her to study International Business at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where her musical journey began.
During an interview with Berla Mundi on The Day Show, Gyakie recounted how her path in music started after she met her producer, Sosa, on the KNUST campus through a mutual friend. Prior to entering the university, Gyakie had envisioned a future as an entrepreneur, driven by her desire to attain financial success.
She explained, “Before I got into the university because that’s where everything started for me. Before I went to KNUST, I just wanted to be an entrepreneur, I wanted to be making money, so I studied International Business. It was at KNUST that I met my producer, Sosa, on campus through a friend.”
Soon after their initial encounter, Sosa sent Gyakie a beat, which eventually became her debut single available on streaming platforms. It was through this experience that she discovered her talent for songwriting and recognized her passion for music.
Gyakie’s first released song, “Never Like This,” marked the beginning of her musical journey and paved the way for subsequent hit tracks such as “Something” and “Rent Free.”
