Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a former president of the Ghana Football Association and one of the founding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has voiced his concerns about the party’s departure from its original principles and values. In a recent interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi TV, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe lamented the erosion of discipline and the abandonment of the party’s development-oriented ideals.
He emphasized that the NPP, at its inception, was characterized by leaders who were held in high regard for their patriotism and honor. These leaders were dedicated to the collective goal of advancing the nation’s development. However, according to Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, the party has since been infiltrated by individuals driven by greed, primarily interested in accumulating personal wealth and property.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe contrasted the past with the present state of the party, noting that even the youth organizers in the early days were respectable figures, often lawyers, who upheld decorum and were not motivated by personal gain. In stark contrast, he observed a lack of such principled individuals within the party today.
Furthermore, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed his dissatisfaction with the current decision-making process within the NPP, which he claimed has been dominated by the President. He asserted that the party, which was founded with the motto “Development in Freedom,” has seemingly lost sight of both development and freedom under the current leadership.
