The government is set to deploy 5,000 graduates in the agriculture and veterinary fields under its flagship Feed Ghana Programme to enhance productivity and strengthen agricultural extension services nationwide.
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang announced this initiative at the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival in the Volta Region on Sunday, October 5.
According to her, the deployment aims to bridge the gap between research and practical farming through the use of modern technologies and best practices. The graduates will work alongside farmers to introduce innovative approaches to production, improve yields, and reduce post-harvest losses.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that the Feed Ghana Programme forms part of government’s broader efforts to address key agricultural challenges such as unpredictable rainfall patterns, limited access to markets, and high post-harvest losses.
She further noted that the government is committed to promoting vegetable cultivation and livestock development, with investments in greenhouse technology, irrigation systems, and agribusiness support.
“This year, under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Feed Ghana Programme is being rolled out with tangible support, including significant allocations to the sector,” she stated. “This includes deploying 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science to work closely with farmers across the country, providing modern extension services and sharing new techniques.”
The Vice President also revealed plans to establish credit facilities and agribusiness training programmes in the Volta Region to encourage more youth participation in farming and veterinary services.
She lauded the Asogli Yam Festival as an important platform for celebrating agricultural achievements and inspiring young people to explore opportunities within the sector.
