The Ministry of Transport has commenced expansion works at Terminal 2 of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in a strategic move to reduce congestion at Terminal 3 and improve the airport’s overall operational efficiency.
Under the new plan, Terminal 2 will handle both domestic and international flights, with the transition to be implemented in two distinct phases. The initiative was jointly announced by the Ministry and the Ghana Airports Company Limited.
Speaking during a working visit to the airport, Transport Minister Joseph Nikpe Bukari emphasized the urgent need to decongest Terminal 3, which has become increasingly overcrowded, particularly during peak travel times.
“We have partitioned Terminal 2 into two phases one dedicated to domestic travel and the other to international flights so that we can offload some of the pressure on Terminal 3 and ensure a more comfortable experience for passengers,” the Minister said.
The expansion is part of broader efforts by the government to enhance infrastructure at Ghana’s busiest airport and meet the growing demand for air travel.
