Government Intensifies Border Patrol to Counter Terrorist Threats – Interior Minister Ambrose Dery

 

Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has unveiled the government’s strategy to bolster border patrol efforts as a preventive measure against potential terrorist incursions into the nation.

Rising concerns over security threats in the Sahel and West African Sub-Region have prompted calls for enhanced security measures, particularly in safeguarding Ghana’s borders. At an event where new vehicles were handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service to enhance its operational capacity, Minister Dery emphasized the urgent need to address the escalating threats.

Acknowledging border security as a significant national security priority regionally and locally, Dery highlighted the increasing complexity of transnational crimes, including terrorism, necessitating immediate attention to border management.

Expressing the government’s proactive stance, he assured comprehensive support to the Ghana Immigration Service, particularly emphasizing the focus on the Northern frontiers. He stressed the deployment of armored equipment across the country while underlining the importance of intelligence-driven operations, well-trained personnel, and modern technology to counter evolving threats.

Dery underscored the criticality of an intelligence-led approach, highlighting the imperative role of highly skilled personnel and advanced technology in safeguarding borders and ensuring national security in the face of emerging threats.
