Government declares curfew in Nalerigu over security concerns

The government has imposed a curfew on Nalerigu Township and surrounding communities in the North East Region following security concerns in the area.

The directive, issued by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, on the advice of the National Security Council, takes effect from Thursday, December 18, 2025. The curfew will run daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

In a statement, authorities called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to remain calm and resolve grievances through peaceful and lawful means to help restore stability in the community.

As part of the security measures, a total ban has been placed on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Nalerigu and its environs. Anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.

Additional restrictions announced include a ban on the movement of motorbikes, a prohibition on wearing smocks, a ban on the sale of fuel in containers, and a restriction on unlawful public gatherings.

Residents have been urged to strictly comply with the directives to support security agencies in maintaining law and order during the curfew period.
