The government has announced a significant upgrade for Mankraso Senior High School after the school’s impressive performance in the recently concluded National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, November 19, Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to supporting high-performing institutions and boosting academic competitiveness across the country.

He revealed that Mankraso SHS has officially been added to the list of schools selected for expansion under an ongoing national upgrading programme.

According to the Minister, the initiative will see 10 Category B schools elevated to Category A status and another 10 Category C schools moved to Category B. He noted that Mankraso SHS earned its place on the list due to its strong NSMQ showing, which he described as deserving of national recognition.

The upgrade will expand the school’s capacity, improve teaching and learning facilities, and position Mankraso SHS to compete more effectively in national academic contests.

Haruna Iddrisu also announced that the government will complete 30 community day senior high schools (e-blocks) under the 2026 budget. He explained that the $180 million allocation will support the completion of these schools to enhance equitable access to quality secondary education.

The interventions, he said, aim to strengthen infrastructure nationwide and empower more schools to deliver strong academic outcomes.
