The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has handed over one of its officers, Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I) Ahmed Abdul Samad, to the Ghana Police Service to assist with an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged ammunition trafficking.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and signed by Maud Anima Quainoo, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration in charge of the Public Affairs Department, the Service explained that the officer was released following a formal request from the Police.
According to the statement, the officer is suspected to be linked to the transportation of a large consignment of ammunition that was intercepted by law enforcement authorities. The release was carried out by the Upper East Regional Command of the GIS as part of efforts to support investigators in establishing the full facts of the case.
The Immigration Service stated that it is cooperating fully with the Police to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
It further stressed that it will not shield any officer whose actions threaten public safety or undermine the integrity and professionalism of the Service, reaffirming that accountability remains a core principle.
The GIS also assured the public of its commitment to national security, professionalism, and the rule of law, adding that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against any officer found culpable, in accordance with existing laws and established procedures.
