Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has announced Ghana’s readiness to consider hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games, following the withdrawal of Australia and Malaysia due to financial constraints.
Ussif stated that Ghana is well positioned to host the Olympic-style tournament, which includes all Commonwealth nations, citing the country’s successful hosting of the African Games as evidence of its capabilities.
In an exclusive interview with GHONE TV’s sports show, The Game, Ussif mentioned that the President of the Commonwealth Games had recently visited Ghana and expressed satisfaction with the country’s facilities.
He emphasized that Ghana has the existing infrastructure to host the games and highlighted the financial support provided by the Commonwealth Games secretariat to host nations, unlike the African Games where hosts bear all expenses.
