Ghana’s ranking on the 2024 Global Peace Index (GPI) has dropped to 55th, down from 51st in 2023 and 40th in 2022. In Sub-Saharan Africa, Ghana now ranks 4th, with Mauritius, Madagascar, and Botswana ahead.

The GPI, produced by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), evaluates 163 countries based on societal safety, conflict, and militarization.

The decline in peacefulness comes as Ghana approaches its December 7 elections, raising concerns about ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
