The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to host a testimonial match in honour of Ghanaian football legend and former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan.
The special event will celebrate Gyan’s outstanding contribution to Ghanaian football, both at the national and international levels. Details of the match, including the date, venue, and participating teams, will be officially confirmed in the coming weeks.
Asamoah Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, having netted 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars. He also holds the record as Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history, with six goals scored across three tournaments — Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.
The 39-year-old striker enjoyed a stellar club career that spanned nearly two decades across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He began his professional journey with Liberty Professionals in Ghana before moving to Udinese in Italy. Gyan later featured for clubs such as Modena, Rennes, Sunderland, Al Ain, Al Ahli, Shanghai SIPG, and Kayserispor, before ending his career with Legon Cities FC.
After officially retiring from professional football in June 2023, Gyan has continued to be celebrated as one of Africa’s most iconic forwards.
The upcoming testimonial match is expected to attract football icons, fans, and dignitaries from across the continent to honour his illustrious career and lasting legacy.
Asamoah Gyan’s story remains one of inspiration and national pride — a journey that elevated Ghana’s presence on the global football stage and cemented his status as one of the country’s greatest sporting heroes.
