Real Tamale United (RTU) has been accused of breaching the GFA Disciplinary Code by allegedly deceiving match officials during their recent game against Dreams FC.
The club is accused of fielding unregistered players who impersonated officially registered team members. RTU has until Friday, June 14, 2024, to respond to these charges.
The GFA Prosecution team is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the identities of the players involved in the alleged impersonation.
If confirmed, the responsible individuals will face appropriate charges. The GFA emphasizes its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the sport and ensuring adherence to all rules and regulations.
Specific Charges
RTU has been charged under Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019. The alleged misconduct involves using unregistered players to impersonate registered team members, an action that damages the reputation of the game.
Incident Background
During the Ghana Premier League match between Dreams FC and RTU, an unregistered player, who did not travel with the RTU team, reportedly scored a consolation goal for RTU.
Another registered player, who remained in Tamale, was shocked to hear on the radio that he had been substituted into the game.
RTU’s registered players boycotted the match due to six months of unpaid wages, leading the club chairman to select second division players to participate in the game.
These players were given the identities and jersey numbers of the original team members. Dreams FC won the match 8-1, with one player scoring five goals.
