The Ghana Education Service (GES) has postponed the reopening date for single-track Senior High Schools (SHSs) from March 29, 2025, to April 23, 2025, citing public holidays and academic scheduling concerns.
In an official circular dated March 27, 2025, GES directed regional education directors to inform school heads, parents, guardians, and students about the adjustment.
The letter, signed by Prince C. Agyeman-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, on behalf of the Acting Director-General, urged stakeholders to take note and prepare accordingly.
Students were originally scheduled to return on March 29 after vacating on March 4. However, due to the upcoming Eid-Ul-Fitr holiday on March 30 and 31, the date was initially moved to April 1. Following further assessment, GES extended it to April 23 to ensure a well-structured academic calendar.
The Ministry of the Interior explained that since Eid-Ul-Fitr falls on Sunday, March 30, the President, through an Executive Instrument (E.I.), declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, as public holidays.
