Germany pledges €65 million to boost Ghana’s development cooperation for 2025

Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to Ghana’s economic and social development with a pledge of €65 million in development cooperation funding for 2025, subject to approval by the German Parliament. The announcement was made by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a joint press briefing with President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The funds will be directed toward key sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and job creation, while also strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

Speaking through an interpreter, President Steinmeier emphasized that the funding reflects Germany’s long-standing partnership with Ghana and its support for sustainable development efforts. “We have been able to bring good tidings today. Germany will again commit more than 65 million euros to Ghana in the framework of our development cooperation. The details will be negotiated before the end of this month,” he stated.

President Mahama commended Germany for its consistent support and called for deeper collaboration in trade, renewable energy, vocational training, and regional security. He assured the German delegation of his administration’s readiness to maintain a business-friendly environment that promotes investment and sustainable growth.

“Our government remains focused on resetting the economy and creating the right conditions for businesses to thrive,” he said, highlighting his ‘Resetting Ghana’ agenda as a framework for national progress.

Both leaders also discussed a potential labour mobility agreement to facilitate structured employment for young Ghanaian professionals in Germany. The initiative aims to address labour shortages in specific German industries while expanding career opportunities for Ghana’s youth.

President Mahama expressed optimism that this new partnership would strengthen Ghana–Germany relations and foster shared prosperity.

President Steinmeier’s three-day official visit to Ghana underscores the enduring partnership between the two nations, which dates back to 1957. It also reaffirms Germany’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic transformation and regional leadership in sustainable development.
