The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has strongly condemned a viral video showing a man believed to be a landlord, physically assaulting a woman alleged to be his wife. In a statement on Monday, November 17, the Ministry described the act as “barbaric” and emphasised that no individual has the right to abuse another under any circumstance.
The Ministry said the assault constitutes a violation of the victim’s rights and is a punishable offence. It added that the sector Minister has contacted the Ghana Police Service to ensure a full investigation and to guarantee justice for the victim. Eyewitnesses with relevant information have been urged to support the ongoing probe.
MoGCSP noted that domestic and sexual violence remain a serious national concern and encouraged the public to report such incidents promptly.
“We reaffirm our commitment to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in ensuring that perpetrators of domestic violence face the full rigours of the law,” the statement said.
The Ministry further encouraged the public to report suspected cases through the Domestic Violence Call Centre (0800-111-222), the Helpline of Hope (0800-800-800 / 0800-900-900), or at the nearest police station.
