A prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to present a concrete case of corruption against President Akufo-Addo or his associates that compares to the Airbus scandal. Otchere-Darko’s comments come in response to Mahama’s recent statement celebrating his vindication by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in the Airbus case.
Otchere-Darko pointed out that, despite the NDC’s accusations of corruption against the current administration, none of their claims have been substantiated to the extent of the Airbus case, where international investigations revealed wrongdoing. He criticized the NDC for relying on what he described as a “book of fiction” to make their case against Akufo-Addo and his government.
He further noted the irony in the NDC’s celebration of Mahama’s clearance by the OSP, considering the international evidence and admissions of guilt by Airbus in the bribery scandal. Otchere-Darko suggested that the NDC’s focus on alleged corruption within the NPP was a strategy to divert attention from the issues within their own ranks.
In his remarks, Otchere-Darko also referenced another ongoing case in the US involving a senior staff member of an international bank, which he claims involves allegations of bribery related to a power contract under Mahama’s administration. He emphasized the need for continued scrutiny and transparency to ensure accountability in governance.
The debate between the NPP and NDC over corruption allegations continues to be a central theme in Ghana’s political landscape as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.
