The Ghana Police Service has arrested four additional suspects in connection with the murder of Francis Frimpong, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, bringing the total number of detained suspects to seven.
The newly arrested individuals include Isaac Ofosu, Augustine Yeboah, Elizabeth Ntiriwaa (alias Akosua Black Chinese), and another female suspect whose identity has been withheld.
A police source confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the suspects were arraigned before a Circuit Court on Friday and have been remanded in police custody until Monday, February 10, 2025. Three of them are expected to reappear in court on February 17, 2025.
Among those already in custody are:
- Ignatius Baffour-Awuah – Owner of Nsoatreman FC and former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations.
- Joseph Kyeremeh – Also facing legal charges.
- Agyemang Duah Owusu – A police inspector charged with murder.
During their initial court appearance, Judge Eric Daning granted Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh bail of GHC 500,000 each with three sureties. They face charges of abetment to commit a crime, to wit murder, under Sections 20(1) and 46 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29). However, Owusu remains in police custody as he faces a direct murder charge.
The tragic event occurred after a heated Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koramansah Park, where Kotoko suffered a 1-0 defeat.
The match saw four red cards issued to players from both teams, leading to rising tensions. After the final whistle, violent clashes erupted between rival supporters, culminating in the fatal attack on Frimpong.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to ensure justice is served.
