The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a final reminder for individuals holding Diplomatic and Service Passports from the previous administration to surrender them by March 17, 2025.
This directive follows an earlier announcement by the Office of the President and the Ministry on January 15, 2025. Despite this, a total of 404 Diplomatic Passports and 387 Service Passports remain unreturned.
Affected individuals are required to surrender their passports to the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The recall applies to:
- Former Ministers and their spouses
- Former Members of Parliament, regardless of party affiliation
- Former members of the Council of State and their spouses
- Former and retired Justices of the Superior and Lower Courts
- Former Regional Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives
- Former state institution officials, board members, and chairs
- Officials linked to the National Cathedral Project
- Former political ambassadors and their dependents
- Businesspersons and entrepreneurs
- Former government functionaries
- Any individuals holding official passports without a current government role
The Ministry has warned that passports not surrendered by the deadline will be cancelled and added to a Stop-Watch List. Those attempting to travel with such passports will face confiscation at Ghana’s entry and exit points.
